Dove: Dermot

This little fledgling was found by someone without mum. They had managed to feed him for a few days before finally bringing him into us

for the last part of his rehabilitation. He was a little skinny when he came in, so we monitored his diet very carefully to make sure he was putting on enough weight. Dove's need to put on weight rapidly when they are young to make sure that when they come to fledge, they have enough muscle and strength to begin to fly. We are also weaning him off human contact, much to his dismay, and he is feeding by himself which is great!

Dermot is now in an outside pre-release aviary in preparation for his final release. He has done brilliantly and we are very happy with his progress. In the next week or so, we will open the doors and he will be able to go to and from the run for another week before we shut the doors and he is on his own.
