Wildlife rocks Talks with Children and Students
Wildlife surrounds us in a hidden world and often we only get fleeting glances. Each creature is unique and has a role in the natural balance. Through our talks we help children to understand the creatures we share
our planet with.
We try to overcome their prejudices, fears and misconceptions and help promote our wonderful wildlife.
By understanding these creatures we can learn to live alongside them and benefit from their existence in our space.
We talk at several key stages.
We currently talk to A-level Biology students on “Nature and Nurture” and at the lower key stage we talk about “Wildlife and the adaptations of their feet for both the environment and food they eat”. Why do ducks have webbed feet and owls have talons? We have several talks in between.
We give talks in college and university on rehabilitation.
We can tailor make talks for specific areas of the curriculum and, amazingly, for most subjects. If you would like us to cover a specific area please send us an outline and we can give you our lesson format prior to the talk.
We can talk to one class or collectively to an entire school duing an assembly. We have Keynote or Powerpoint presentations to visually aid our talks.
We bring with us to these talks some of our wildlife that is able to cope with groups of humans. This will enable students to see these elusive creatures first hand and help them to understand the attributes they have to cope with the hardships they have to face.
We do not profess to have the ability to change the world but if we can reach students and get them thinking we can hope the decisions they make as adults, in relation to their environment, may just include a thought for our native wildlife and help its longevity.
Our wildlife, when left to its own devices, is often in perfect balance. Over the years we as humans have affected that balance by importing wildlife, chemically trying to control species and having a lack of understanding of it's habitat and needs.
Our wildlife has roles within our community and some are very important.
We do not charge for our talks but are often asked if people and children can help us in some way. We are always in need of dog and cat food both dry and wet and old towels. These items would be gratefully received. We can never have too much of any of these items. One sachet of cat food will feed a baby hedgehog for a whole day. A school, college or children's group could hold a mufti day or sponsored walk. In fact the ways are endless and fun. For more details of the ways to support us read More
Finally all the creatures we bring with us are wild. We try to carefully select the animals we bring to ensure they are relaxed in this environment. They may be a little timid

why we do it
Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance on the beach, and so he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean READ MORE
How we started
Whilst out walking with my dog in the early 1980's I found a small hedgehog stuck in a fence. He was too fat to go through and his prickles wouldn't let him go back.
He had been pushing so long in an attempt to free himself that the wire had cut into his body and his leg was bleeding where he had pushed and pushed against the ground. I had in my handbag a pair of pliers (no surprise to anyone who knows me) I cut the wire and removed the hedgehog READ MORE
