Ms Brummer goes out on most of the rescues herself and also carries out educational work
A Surrey woman who has rescued thousands of animals and birds is to receive a special recognition award.

Anne Brummer first began working with wildlife 25 years ago when she took care of a hedgehog.

She now runs Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue Centre in Camberley which last year cared for more than 1,600 animals.

Ms Brummer will receive the Wildlife Rescue Award from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) at the House of Lords on 18 October.

'Wonderful volunteers'
Robbie Marsland, UK director of IFAW, said: "We are very pleased to be able to reward Anne's amazing dedication to rescuing and caring for wild animals and birds over so many years and wanted to recognise her outstanding work with our Wildlife Rescue Award."

The Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue Centre is supported by Queen's Brian May and runs on two sites, using land owned by Mr May, for long-term and specialist rehabilitation.

With Ms Brummer, there are 27 volunteers who help injured and orphaned wild animals and birds, nurturing them back to health and then releasing them back into the wild.

Ms Brummer said: "It's very exciting to receive such a prestigious award.

"I couldn't do what I do without the wonderful volunteers that work with me at Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue, this award is for all 27 of us, I just love it."

animals in circus

FRIDAY 24TH JUNE 2011

We are extremely pleased to see that the awful practice of wild animals in circus is a thing of the past. All humane people can breath a sigh of relief.

We applaud Tory MP Mark Pritchard for standing up and applaud him for his honesty. We are shocked that our Prime Minster would seek to pervert the vote by extreme pressure and cohesion. We hope that David Cameron can see there are MP’s within his party who will stand up for what they believe irrelevant of Mr Cameron distorted views.

Licensing wild animals within a circus is heinous and archaic we hope Mr Cameron will see trying to license fox hunting will receive the same condemnation and we hope he will not try to sneak in the back door with a similar bill.

Our badgers are safe in Wales for a little while and I hope Mr Cameron has taken note of the force being the current halt and realize that the British force is even stronger and will not wain.

A good day for wildlife and a day to celebrate the winning of a battle but the war is still to be won.

why we do it

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance on the beach, and so he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean READ MORE

Hospitalization Cages

We are in need of specialist hospitalization cages .

The cost of these cages range from £386 to £4900 for the units we require. We are currently raising money for these to help our orphans and patients. We have found these cages to be invaluable as they offer the ultimate level in safety and hygiene, which enables us to give our patients the expert care and attention to enable them to recover. These are designed specifically for our needs.

If your local Veterinary Practice or reserch laboratories are furbishing, please let us know as they may be removing and replacing cages that we can use.

How we started

Whilst out walking with my dog in the early 1980's I found a small hedgehog stuck in a fence. He was too fat to go through and his prickles wouldn't let him go back.

He had been pushing so long in an attempt to free himself that the wire had cut into his body and his leg was bleeding where he had pushed and pushed against the ground. I had in my handbag a pair of pliers (no surprise to anyone who knows me) I cut the wire and removed the hedgehog READ MORE
