Jackdaw: Blackberry

Blackberry the juvenile Jackdaw was found wandering around a car park on his own. He is old enough to leave the nest but mum should really

be watching over him and topping him up with food. Mum was obviously neglecting her duties with this little one!

He is very skinny and came covered in dirt and bugs, so he must have been on his own for a little while. Thankfully, the lovely lady who found him, whilst at work, called us straight away and popped him in a box until we could get to her.

She named him Blackberry, although many of our volunteers refer to him as 'Dark Spirit' due to his grumpiness! Naturally, he doesn't quite realise that we are trying to help him and clearly has never heard of the phrase 'do not bite the hand the feeds you'!!

He is putting on weight and becoming very feisty indeed, he will hopefully be released soon from one of our outside aviaries.

-------------------------------------

Blackberry is doing really well in our care. He is now dirt and parasite free so has now put on some weight and is still eating lots! He is also starting to get the hang of flying now, so will be ready for one of our outside aviaries soon.

He is in need of some corvid friends to be released with though. He is by no means tame, but is starting to get used to our presence so we want to get him some chums and get him released as soon as possible.

Blackberry is enjoying having some more perches in his indoor enclosure! He is putting on weight still, which is brilliant.

OUTCOME:

Blackberry has now gone into a pre-release run with some other juvenile Jackdaws in preparation for his final release. The doors will be opened soon and he will be back in the wild!
